You don't understand this site. The purpose is to allow people to control what is presented as important, instead of having that control be exercised by professional editors, and to provide a forum where people can discuss their views on issues, which is often lacking. The value of the latter is that people develop a better understanding of these things through discussing them. The value of the former is that professional editors often have adgendas that differ from that of the people on the whole. This idea should speak to conservatives who seem concerned that the media is too liberal.

If you like the new Pope you might express that you do and explain why. Instead you attack others for expressing their views. Thats why it seems divisive. Its only divisive if you don't respect other people's opinions. You should seek to influence rather then attack.
