] Names that have been floated in recent weeks as a possible
] replacement include Ashcroft's former deputy, Larry Thompson,
] who would become the first black attorney general.

] Others include Marc Racicot, who was Bush's campaign manager,

] give Bush a notable Hispanic appointment.
