This podcast is pretty infuriating honestly. Skydog showed up at Phreaknic last year and threw a party the purpose of which was to announce that he was going to take out Phreaknic. He distributed stickers at the party which said "RIPhreaknic" as in "Rest in Peace." It was made very clear to everyone what the deal was. But here he says that he has no intention of damaging Phreaknic, and he has no idea why anyone would think that, and they go even further, to accuse those who make these accusations of being unreasonable. I don't have the words to describe how disgusted I am.
I haven't been around since the beginning, but my take on the reasoning for Outerz0ne was the disapproval of a lot of people in the direction Interz0ne was going or had started out as which was for profit. I was excited about SkyDogCon when he first announced it and was kicking around ideas of it being in Daytona or something like that, but then it morphed into a vindictive sideshow that if I remember correctly before the more recent updates to the site said that it was a for profit con. There's absolutely no place for a second conference on the same weekend with such a small community. It's hard to imagine how anyone could think that what he's doing is anything BUT damaging by splitting the community, not just attendees but speakers as well. That podcast was the last straw for me, I'd like to hear the PhreakNIC management response, but I would be willing to bet the stories don't match on how everything went down. The pool for speakers has always seemed relatively low and some speakers are giving the same talk at both cons. I really haven't seen any benefit to going to SkyDogCon, especially when it costs 3 times as much. RE: Two cons in Nashville on the same weekend? |
