A concierge at Home Depot by IconoclasT at 10:12 am EDT, Sep 10, 2004 |
Home improvement retailer's first Manhattan store also features concierge, but no sheetrock. September 10, 2004: 7:31 AM EDT NEW YORK (Reuters) - Home Depot Inc. , known for its hangar-like stores, is bringing its massive array of home improvement goods to the big city as it gets set to open its first three-story shop in Manhattan. Home Depot's first Manhattan store, which opens to the public Friday, will have a doorman for help in hailing cabs and a concierge to offer information and schedule appointments with designers. It promises same-day delivery of most merchandise, a boon for public transportation-bound urbanites. "Manhattan is unique, and it has a tremendous customer base opportunity," Robert Nardelli, the company's chairman, chief executive and president said at the store's grand opening on Thursday. "We're confident that with success here, it will give us the opportunity to continue to expand our business." The store, located on 23rd Street between Fifth and Six Avenues in Manhattan, announces itself with orange banners on its facade and features a more classic, homey interior, with white columns and an atrium. WTF?!? I think it was Hank Williams Jr. that said "Send me to hell or NYC. It would be about the same to me." |
