I supposed I shouldn't expect you to appreciate the not so subtle differences between civil and criminal law enforcement. In this case if they fuck up and raid someone who really is innocent; someone who was running a site that someone else used to trade files without the knowledge of the operator... Well, it doesn't matter, because by the time the thing gets to trial the accused has already lost most of their life savings, their job, and their reputation. You have the FBI smashing doors and computers and occaisonally people who are presumed innocent, and they are spending my money to do it. The entertainment industry has had absolutely no trouble finding people to prosecute; they've prosecuted thousands, and they've done it in civil court where they pick up the tab and no one's stuff gets smashed up. They've created a real threat facing people who do this stuff. So this is neither nessecary, nor particularly just. Nor is it going to help the entertainment industry's margins, nor change the tide of technological change. All in all, its a disgusting waste of my money. ] Anyhow, I doubt Kerry will take your side ] either. Don't you know that Hollywood has our two loyal ] parties in their pockets? You're right, he won't. I expect more of the same stupid bullshit. RE: Choke on This, Cybergeeks! |
