A Show Called Hope by noteworthy at 12:44 pm EDT, Aug 1, 2004 |
The 2004 Democratic convention had its moments, some of them quite good, if not all intentionally so. On Wednesday there was the speech by Dennis Kucinich -- a reminder, perhaps, that the primary system really does work, even though an alarming number of Yale millionaires manage to slip through the net. |

Once again, we have a news story. Listen up, all you amateur reporters out there in memestreamsland, we can get the news from multiple (more reliable) sources. Please offer us some recommendations for art, literature, movies, music, et al. The current use of this site belies its true use. I feel terrible that you wasted your lives in front of a computer monitor instead of seeking out the finer things in life. Since it has become painfully obvious from your pathetic punditry that no memesters majored in journalism, I must point out that this is a terrible use of this site! |

If it's recommendations you want, I suggest Richard Dawkins' The Selfish Gene, Susan Blackmore's The Meme Machine, and Aaron Lynch's Thought Contagion, for starters. This is not a "web log." This is not a "collaborative filter." It's not about you. It's not about me. It's about memes. |

I am not sure what you are actually saying. Are you trying to disagree with me? I am confused. Please write in prose form, next time. I never liked the works of Whitman. |

Vile wrote: ] It seems you agreed with me anyway. ] I am not sure what you are actually saying. I'm saying you misunderstand the idea of memes, and in that, you misunderstand the purpose of MemeStreams. First of all, everyone will have a different view of what the site is "for." Everyone's entitled to their own, but no one is obligated to share that view or go out of their way to see to it that your view is fulfilled. MemeStreams doesn't care about helping you (or me, or anyone) find new bands, or new movies, or new books, or whatever. Memes don't have purpose, or objective, any more than genes do. They simply exist, and propagate, and die off, and mutate, and so on. ] Are you trying to disagree with me? You seem to want that. I'm explaining (or trying), not arguing. I tend to agree with you about Whitman. |
