Meet Kimbo Slice. Do not anger Kimbo. Kimbo is teh tough.
by Decius at 10:46 pm EDT, Aug 15, 2004

Kimbo Slice is the guy in the white shorts. He is an underground boxer, that will fight anyone, anytime, anyplace, for between $5,000 and $10,000. Backed by a Miami porn site mogul, he has these fights for a living until he goes pro. Which he is looking to do, in UFC or something. So, if you wanna throw down with Kimbo then you'd better hurry up. Otherwise you'll have to assault him or go pro to get a piece.

It has been argued that he was on PCP, or a short acting anabolic agent popular with Mike Tyson, that stimulates extreme aggression. But the guy went to prison for 10 years, and was probably raped before he got that big, so I think he just has an enormous amount of aggression and experience in fighting.

You decide. For me: Kimbo is my hero either way. He is way tough.

kimboslice@hotmail.com if you want to throw down.

In fairness to the other guy, who couldn't really fight all that well and spent most of his time playing defense (even in the first throws of the fight). He looked fairly inexperienced, even as a street fighter. Even though he was a few pounds lighter than Kimbo, and didn't have nearly the upper body strength, experience can usually overcome that kinda stuff.

That's not to take anything away from Kimbo, who took at least three (that I could count) full on lean in straight shots to the face completely unprotected. His face wasn't even swollen afterward, but I imagine that he's probably pumped up with something to account for that. Taking that kinda shot to the face would definitely cause damage, let alone more than once.

I can't see this guy going pro though, because his technique is horrible. Even as a heavyweight, he doesn't move his feet well, and he constantly left the body open except for the first minute or so. A pro would certainly hurt him, but he'd probably have to throw a few haymakers to knock him out if he can withstand the shots he took in this fight. There's no way he'd last in UFC, since he probably can't kick. Besides, most UFC bouts are won by pinning a guy and either choking him off or constant knee kicks to the skull.

I think the challenger had already lost the fight before the first blows were thrown.

This is a little bit of a different style than UFC fighting. This guy might be able to do well in K-1 which is an all-striking tournament. In Pride or UFC or the other events he would have to know some grappling skills. However, I have all of the PRIDE, UFC, and a hundred or more other fighting DVDs and I see guys like this win more than you would think. Remember, all it takes is one solid shot to end any fight. Also, being so big and strong, it is still difficult to get him and keep him on the ground long enough to tap him out.

All excellent points. I guess my assessment of his ability to compete in UFC was driven from Tom's comment and the fact that the title winners are usually reliant on a specific technique, which this guy does not seem to have. Hard to tell from just one backyard bout, but that's probably the reason why he hasn't gone pro already.

He's still a bad ass mutha fucker though.
