This is soooo uneconomical that if anything, it could set the Chinese economy back 10 years. On the other hand, they do have a huge (captive?) domestic market... |

If the Chinese won't produce $30 DVD players that play nice with established standards, there is a long line of 3'rd world countries with emerging markets that will be happy to oblige. |

If Chinese people have Chinese electronics that only communicate using Chinese protocols then incompatibility will limit their exposure to "corrupt" western culture. |
