An impression held by most of the rest of the world. The US supported the IRA while they were bombing London. Until it's your own wives, children, husbands and sons that are being raped and killed in your own home town, it's just so much copy. But 9/11 tragically showed the US how it feels to be faced with barbarity on its own territory and with its own civilians. A point the terrorists have been making over and over in their attacks. I think after Madrid soomeone remarked, "These are your goods, returned to you." Rather the isolate, the US needs, more than ever, to seek out and earn the trust of friends, both old and new. For those of us who love and respect the US people (if not the US government and military), we look forward to that day.
