Well, it couldn't be too non-corporate or they wouldn't be concerned about RIAA fees, but the truth is that the royalty system for internet radio is a huge impediment to what could be a great media, and a big hole in the argument that I made in reference to Stern. It is absolutely unconscionable that we now have a technology that allows people (particularly individual hobbyists and small community groups) to run radio stations without an FCC license, and so we've replaced the FCC process with a royalty system that is, in some cases, both more expensive and extremely difficult to understand. To top it off, multicast has effectively failed to mainstream despite the amount of media streaming thats going on. The RIAA, and large internet companies like Yahoo, have definitely conspired to set prices at levels eliminate opportunities from the market. Services like live365 make this somewhat more manageable, but at 50,000 customers woxy is out of that league. RE: 97X WOXY Game Over? |
