If someone doesn't pick their nose (and doesn't sneeze the stuff out), the dried mucous works its way up the nose and down the throat and into the stomach. It's why people with colds or sinus problems may feel nauseous and have a sore throat -- the excess mucous is draining down the throat (causing the soreness when it's in large amounts), and then as it collects in the stomach it can cause nausea. But most people don't notice the smaller amounts on a routine basis. So, it *sounds* gross to think about eating it, but in actuality we all do it on a daily basis. Though those using the finger method get to savor the taste and texture, too. ;) RE: Ananova - Top doc backs picking your nose and eating it |
