Ananova - Top doc backs picking your nose and eating it by Rattle at 7:22 pm EST, Mar 30, 2004 |
This just in, your mom was wrong. ] Innsbruck-based lung specialist Prof Dr Friedrich ] Bischinger said people who pick their noses with their ] fingers were healthy, happier and probably better in tune ] with their bodies. ] ] He says society should adopt a new approach to ] nose-picking and encourage children to take it up. It may be a good way to help strengthen the immune system. We do it naturally when we are young, which is usually a good indication of things. ] And he pointed out that if anyone was really worried ] about what their neighbour was thinking, they could ] still enjoy picking their nose in private if they still ] wanted to get the benefits it offered. File this under "keeping your nose clean". |

Rattle wrote: ] File this under "keeping your nose clean". Interesting article. Another point worth mentioning is that a lot of the stuff in the nose works its way into the digestive system anyway. If someone doesn't pick their nose (and doesn't sneeze the stuff out), the dried mucous works its way up the nose and down the throat and into the stomach. It's why people with colds or sinus problems may feel nauseous and have a sore throat -- the excess mucous is draining down the throat (causing the soreness when it's in large amounts), and then as it collects in the stomach it can cause nausea. But most people don't notice the smaller amounts on a routine basis. So, it *sounds* gross to think about eating it, but in actuality we all do it on a daily basis. Though those using the finger method get to savor the taste and texture, too. ;) |
