Ananova - Churches snap up Gibson film tickets by Shannon at 3:25 pm EST, Mar 9, 2004 |
Four English churches are offering free cinema tickets to see Mel Gibson's film The Passion of the Christ in an attempt to boost their congregations. According to BBC online, the Church of England parishes, in and around Maidstone, Kent, have booked £20,000 worth of tickets for the film. The film, which opens in the UK this month, depicts the last hours of Christ and has caused uproar in the US amid claims of anti-Semitism. It has raised more than $200m (£108m) at the US box office in two weeks. St Luke's Church in Maidstone, All Saints Church and Loose Baptist Church in the village of Loose, and St Peter's Church in nearby Boughton Monchelsea, have purchased 3,000 cinema tickets at £6.50 each. Friggin' hypocrits. These are probably the same people that condemn violence and gore in film. What the fuck? I guess its ok to show inhuman beatings, so long as your beating the shit out of christ. If it's good enough for the christians, it should be good enough for everyone. The next time I hear some religous asshole whining about any violence...EVER, I'm going to burn his bible. |

Its not even good violence. He never fights back! The Fighting Jesus woulda pulled a glock out of his loincloth and popped some caps in some roman asses, then marched to the cross and said, "Aight, lets do this shit!" This one just turned the other cheek! I want my money back. I can't believe I paid for this thing. Although props to the blood shooting out of Jeebus onto the Roman soldier... thats on par for brutality with anything I've seen in a movie. |

Yeah, but there's a problem there. Wasn't the reason for all the gore because they wanted it to be "historically accurate?" And isn't it a thoroughly accepted fact that the Romans would not have crucified someone by staking their hands... because the flesh there cannot support the weight of a person and they would fall... that they really drop the stake in between the arm bones, at the wrist? They put it in the hand because thats what people expect. Not to mention that Jeebus wasn't that white. Anyway, I was shocked when they staked his hand. |
