The Birth of the Mind by Jeremy at 7:47 pm EST, Dec 23, 2003 |
A lucid, pleasing chronicle of how genes construct the human mind. There is only a tiny genomic difference between humans and primates, but an immense one between their minds. There isn't one gene "for" some attribute, such as intelligence, which is implied when the human genome is compared to a blueprint. Instead, genes act in "exquisite harmony." |

I actually highly discourage this one. I've heard nothing but negative things about it. Notable quotes being, "Someone who writes a book titled, "The Birth of the Mind" is either incredibly brilliant or an incredible bullshitter...and I believe I know where to place this one..." Haven't read it personally though -- from what I have seen though seems very Pinker'ian. -Virgil Jeremy wrote: ] A lucid, pleasing chronicle of how genes construct the ] human mind. ] ] There is only a tiny genomic difference between humans and ] primates, but an immense one between their minds.
